Koonunga Hill Shiraz joined the range in 2002, a contemporary reflection of Penfolds multi-regional sourcing philosophy. Shiraz from the warmer districts of South Australia is carefully blended, with the Barossa Valley always well represented. Ripe plum, blueberry & sweet spice - undeniably South Australian Shiraz. Winemaker Richard Mattner - a born-and-bred Barossa local - loves making Pepperjack wines as much as he loves drinking them, especially alongside a great steak. As he says: "Why would I need anything else?" Deep dark red with a vibrant purple rim, the nose bursts with rich aromas of blackberry, blueberry, dark chocolate, mocha, and spice. The palate is plush and layered, delivering concentrated dark fruits, fine tannins, and a soft, lingering finish. Pepperjack Shiraz is a true Barossa classic.

Named after the family cottage built by Penfolds founder Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold in 1845, Rawson's Retreat honours the winery's rich heritage while offering an approachable taste of classic Australian winemaking. Bursting with ripe raspberry, blueberry and blackcurrant flavours, this generous Shiraz Cabernet is complemented by hints of coffee bean and mixed spice from oak maturation. Soft, rounded tannins and a smooth finish make it an easy-drinking red, perfect alongside grilled meats, hearty pasta dishes or any casual occasion.

A brooding mix of dark and blue fruits. Black cherries, plums and perfumed fruit mince. A good measure of spice, with earthy and chocolate undertones. balanced, even and supple. Morello cherries, earth and spice fill the mouth. The wine is bold and generous, without being heavy. Velvety tannins with a light cherry-chocolate finish.

The wine has a wonderful aroma displaying dark plum, redcurrant and red cherry fruits along with subtle chocolate and a touch of oak derived spice. The palate is plump & generous with ripe fruit characters of plum, cherry and redcurrant. Mocha coffee and subtle aniseed characters are also present along with vanillan oak to balance the fruit flavours. The wine is medium-bodied with a soft mid-palate & pleasing tannin structure. It is a well balanced wine with great texture, good length and enjoyable fruit flavours on the finish.
